Pavlov, Fluteau, Veselovskiy, Fetisova, Latyshev Secular geomagnetic variations and volcanic pulses in the Permian-Triassic traps of the Noril'sk and Maimecha-Kotui province [Izvestiya, Physics of the Solid Earth 47, 402-417, 2011]

Vladimir Pavlov and colleagues report that volcanism in the Siberian traps occurred in discrete pulses not longer than about 8,000 years each, and include in their paper conclusions about the net time of formation of the lava sequences at Noril’sk and Kotui.

Payne, Jost, Wang, Skotheim A shift in the long-term mode of foraminiferan size evolution caused by the end-Permian mass extinction [Evolution. doi:10.1111/j.1558-5646.2012.01807.x, 2013]
Payne, Turchyn, Paytan, DePaolo, Lehrmann, Yu, Wei Calcium isotope constraints on the end-Permian mass extinction [Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, 107, 8543-8548, 2010]

The calcium data supports volcanism as the cause of the end-Permian extinction.
